Flatbush-Tompkins Congregational Church
Brooklyn, New York
Scope
The Flatbush-Thompkins Congregational Church, an individually designated New York City landmark, comprises two major masses: the 1899 Church building-now the concert hall, and the 1910 Church - the “New Church”.
Although the congregation made valiant efforts to maintain their building, persistent leaks at the building envelope resulted in significant damage to the historic interior finishes. The congregation successfully acquired a grant from the New York Landmarks Conservancy Sacred Sites fund to address the building envelope deficiencies.
JHPArchitects PC was enlisted by the congregation to establish a scope of repair interventions, develop restoration documents, shepherd the project through the NYC Landmarks Commission process, and make this magnificent building whole once again. Following successful completion of the building envelope project, the JHPA team assisted with restoration of the damaged interior fiinishes, and restoration of deteriorated original windows.
