Connetquot River State Park Nichol Mill

Oakdale, New York

Scope

The Nichol Mill, located on the southern end of Connetquot River State Park was a significant architectural feature of the former Southside Sportsman’s Club. The mill had previously undergone numerous alterations and inappropriate repairs over the decades and was in a state of partial disassembly with much of the original milling equipment in storage.

JHPA, Inc./JHPArchitects PC worked with the Friends of Connetquot to prepare a detailed set of restoration documents for the mill, including structural modifications required to make the mill operable once again for school group interpretive tours.

JHPA, Inc performed a detailed member by member assessment of the timber framed structure which was critical to determine what portions of earliest construction could be preserved while ensuring the building could handle the loads generated by functional mill stones. JHPArchitects PC provided architectural services for restoration documents and project administration.
