Lewis W. Gleason

Architectural Conservator

EXPERIENCE

Prior to returning to school to complete a graduate degree in Historic Preservation at Columbia University, Mr. Gleason spent eight years in the construction trades as a journeyman carpenter. Projects completed while working in Boston and San Francisco include numerous restorations and renovations to historic residential properties as well as the construction of new cutting-edge designs. Extensive field experience enables Mr. Gleason to analyze existing structural and aesthetic designs and implement innovative solutions to architectural challenges. Currently, he is working on documentation and plans for the John Jay Homestead and the Battery Maritime Building Guastavino Vault Restoration.

Mr. Gleason’s graduate work at Columbia focused on the structural analysis of historic and contemporary structures, as well as additions to and the adaptive reuse of significant buildings. His Master’s thesis proposed an adaptive reuse project for portions of the derelict rail power infrastructure that line the transportation corridors of the New York region. In addition to practical and theoretical work, Mr. Gleason brings to the office skills in three-dimensional design rendering and the graphic arts.
