Jimena Bruguera

Architectural Designer

EXPERIENCE

Ms. Bruguera is an architectural designer focused on historic preservation and adaptive reuse. She is skilled in research, design, construction administration and computer-aided drafting. Since joining the firm she has worked on the restoration of the North Loggia Elevation at the Battery Maritime Building in Lower Manhattan.

Ms. Bruguera has varied architectural experience ranging from urban design to working on the construction of sets for Broadway shows. From 1997 to 2000 Ms. Bruguera worked for the Architectural Department in Buenos Aires, Argentina where she focused on the restoration and adaptive reuse of landmark city-owned buildings for cultural uses. In 2001 Ms. Bruguera was invited to work on an adaptive adaptive reuse project in Madrid, Spain converting an old Train Terminal, Principe Pio into a theatre for musical shows. Since Ms. Bruguera moved to New York she has focused mainly in restoring brownstones to their original use as single-family houses.

In 1994 Ms. Bruguera was chosen among other students at the Architectural University of Buenos Aires to complete an internship with the Urban Planning Department of the City of Buenos Aires. While studying set design and construction at the National Opera Theatre she was chosen to work on the construction of several different Opera and Ballet sets. In 1996 Ms. Bruguera wrote her final thesis on La Candelaria neighborhood in the city of Bogotá, Colombia, focusing in the interaction of Colonial Architecture with modern structures. In New York Ms. Bruguera completed an internship for Hudson Scenics assisting in the construction of Broadway shows such as Mamma Mia and Urinetown, and she was invited to work on the urban planning workshop for the Inwood, Sherman Creek area.
