The New Annex-Southside Sportsmen’s Club

Great River, New York

Scope

The Southside Sportsmen’s Club of Long Island was formed in 1886, established “for the protection of game birds and fish and for the promotion of social intercourse among its members”. The Club is included in the National Register of Historic Places.

Built in the Shingle Style, and used as a residence for Club members, the Annex was likely designed by the architect of the main clubhouse, Bradford Gilbert.

Currently unused, the building was the focus of an existing conditions assessment and report completed by JHPA, Inc. staff. The report included recommendations for remedial intervention and periodic maintenance, and established a path forward toward maintaining the Annex building, and its eventual return to a viable resource at the Park Preserve.
