Scope

Hoping to expand an existing hotel in the historic district of Norwalk, the FD Rich Company, developers, were faced with a number of existing conditions with the ca 1927 Udelman Building, a commercial structure which occupied the adjacent property. Unfortunately, the Udelman Building had been poorly maintained by previous owners, who also had completed inappropriate repairs on the structure. In order to determine an appropriate intervention strategy, JHPA, Inc. was engaged by the developer to complete an Historic Property Evaluation Report. The report served to guide the developer in determining the efficacy of adaptively reusing the extant building, or determining what extant features of the building deserved possible salvaging and reuse as artifacts in the new hotel building.
