Nathaniel Rogers House

Bridgehampton, New York

Scope

The home of famed miniaturist painter Nathaniel Rogers, and later the Hampton House Inn, The Nathaniel Rogers house is a prominent Landmark at the crossroads in Bridgehampton, NY. Neglected and vacant for years, the Bridgehampton Museum entered into an agreement with the Town of Southampton to acquire the property and complete full interior and exterior restoration. The building serves as the headquarters for the Bridgehampton Museum’s operations and a civic gathering place.

JHPA Inc/JHPArchitects PC prepared a detailed conditions assessment report, restoration design drawings, as well as construction documents, and provided construction administration for the phased restoration of the house. The scope of the restoration included restoration of the exterior wood cladding and trim, foundation underpinning and masonry repairs, reconstruction of the front, side and rear porches and south wing as well as the cupola, and restoration of the interior finishes, and museum office fit-out at the second floor.

The scope of services also included providing the museum with grant and funding assistance, working with private funding sources as well as NYSOPRHP with EPF and CFA grants. The final phase of restoration was completed, with the building restored to its 1880s Hampton House appearance, integrated with contemporary conservation grade climate-controlled spaces for the museum’s archives and appropriate handicapped access.
