Scope
Constructed in 1832, the Merchant’s House Museum is an outstanding and rare example of early 19th-century residential architecture in New York City. The building combines details from the Federal and Greek Revival styles, and is a National Historic Landmark. Both the exterior and interior are designated individual New York City landmarks.
JHPA, Inc./JHPArchitects, PC has assisted the museum with a variety of projects in the past three decades including preparation of an Historic Structure Report and measured drawings, as well a numerous restoration projects at the interior and exterior of the house, including plaster and finishes repairs, restoration of the gasoliers, restoration of the tea room, and window restoration.
JHPA has also assisted the museum regarding protection related to the inappropriate construction of a new tower next door.
