Lincoln Depot Site Plan

Peekskill, New York

Scope

Following the successful restoration of the historic rail station shell as a future museum, JHPArchitects PC was engaged by the City of Peekskill to prepare a Schematic Site Plan Design for soliciting funds for a three-acre public park which would include a relocated historic fire house to be used as a possible restaurant, a small visitor center, a relocated statue of Abraham Lincoln and bridge access across a railroad right-of-way to a public playground along the Hudson River waterfront. The site was bordered by a blank warehouse façade to the north, a bakery to the south, and a parking lot to the east and the railroad tracks to the west.

JHPA prepared several alternative designs to locate the disparate program elements following important existing sight lines, view corridors, and automobile and pedestrian traffic patterns to combine into a cohesive whole. Each of the structures within the park was to be located along an implied circular walkway pattern crossed by other direct paths. Adjacent industrial properties were screened using buildings and landscape elements.
