Holland Activity Center

Middletown, New Jersey

Scope

The Storey house, ca. 1800, now the Holland Activity Center, grew substantially into the current configuration during the tenure of the Tatum Family during the 1910s and 1920s.

Working closely with Monmouth County Parks System, JHPA, Inc. prepared a detailed conditions assessment and recommendations report, and completed limited investigative probes of the house. Building upon this investigation, the JHPArchitects, PC team developed a two-phase restoration program to restore the interior and exterior of the house.

Maintaining the original character of the 1820s era farmhouse while preserving the evolution of the complex with the alterations by the Tatums was a challenge. Later, inappropriate, additions were documented and removed and historic finishes replicated, while historic additions were accurately restored.
