Caleb Smith House

Commack, New York

Scope

The historic Caleb Smith House, constructed in 1819 in Commack, NY. Saved from a developer’s wrecking ball, it was moved to its present site on Main St. in Smithtown in 1955.

Protected by the town of Smithtown, the house is now the headquarters of the Smithtown Historical Society, and is an imposing site on Main Street in Smithtown.

As part of their stewardship effort, the Town enlisted the services of JHPA, Inc. to complete an on-site conditions assessment, and provide a Conditions Assessment Report for the building. As a result, the Town has a strategy for fund raising and undertaking repair interventions over the next several years to ensure that the Smith House provides cultural and learning experiences for many decades to come.
