Manitoga Studio Restoration

Garrison NY

Manitoga, the home and studio of famed designer Russell Wright at Garrison, New York, is a shining example of the modernist movement in architecture.

The studio, which was Wright’s primary residence at Manitoga, later served as the center of operations for the Manitoga Foundation between 1976 and 2001. After years of use, removal of significant historic fabric, and damage resulting from failure of the original green roof, the Studio was no longer the showplace it was while Wright was alive.

To determine the correct period appearance, JHPA worked closely with the Foundation to document the original structure, research personal photos and diaries kept by Wright and conduct interviews with those closest to him.

As restored by JHPA, the interior and exterior of the studio accurately reflects its appearance in 1962.
