EXPERIENCE

Mr. Seymour joined JHPA as an architect focused on historic preservation and adaptive reuse. He is skilled in research, design, construction administration, computer-aided drafting, and 3-D computer modeling. Mr. Seymour is also a LEED Accredited Professional. Currently he is working on a number of projects including the restoration and expansion of an 1860s tenement in Manhattan and the renovation of New Jersey Transit’s Broad Street Station in Newark, New Jersey.

Mr. Seymour has extensive and varied architectural experience, ranging from designing landscape plans to overseeing the construction of a flagship store for a major clothing retailer in Las Vegas. From 1996 to 1998 Mr. Seymour worked in a detail-oriented firm where he developed technical drawings for the renovation of multi-family housing in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 1998 Mr. Seymour joined Gensler Associates in San Francisco where he worked on incorporating new retail establishments in historic buildings, including the Gap store at Fifth Avenue and 19th Street in New York City’s Ladies’ Mile Historic District. This work included documenting historic conditions and developing strategies for successfully integrating the new with the old.

Mr. Seymour was honored to receive the Quester’s Scholarship in recognition of academic excellence to attend Columbia University’s Historic Preservation Program. He took this opportunity to broaden his architectural knowledge and focused his studies on the conservation and preservation of buildings from the recent past, writing his thesis on issues surrounding the recladding of modern curtain wall buildings in New York. In his first year at Columbia, Mr. Seymour was chosen along with another student to prepare a publication documenting the preservation plan that had been developed by the planning studio for the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn. In his second year at Columbia he served as Teaching Assistant for both the Historic Preservation Planning Studio and Principles of Traditional Construction, taught by Jan Hird Pokorny. Mr. Seymour currently teaches a class in computer drafting and serves as the president of the alumni association for Columbia’s Historic Preservation Program.
