Deirdre Gerbeth

EXPERIENCE

Ms. Gerbeth has considerable experience in the areas of architectural design and architectural conservation. She is skilled in the areas of research, building survey and conditions assessment, design, materials conservation, and historic archeology. Currently Ms. Gerbeth is working on the exterior restoration of the Battery Maritime Building in Manhattan.

Ms. Gerbeth has varied hands-on experience with masonry, timber, and concrete as well as general building construction. Her design experience has included high-end residential design, architectural interiors, and feasibility studies for accommodating ADA accessibility improvements in historic buildings. Ms. Gerbeth also has experience with historic building surveys and condition assessments involving several significant buildings and sites in New York, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania.

While at Columbia University, Ms. Gerbeth’s work focused on architectural materials conservation. After completing an internship with Preservar Incorporated of New York which involved mural conservation at St. Stephen’s Church in Manhattan, Ms. Gerbeth participated in the conservation of important murals and glass mosaics at the Wisconsin State Capitol building.

In 1995, Ms. Gerbeth was involved in the survey and research of neighborhoods and commercial buildings in Albuquerque, including a portion of Route 66, which was funded by a Certified Local Government Grant. Prior to her involvement with the grant project, she completed a volunteer internship for the Albuquerque Landmarks and Urban Conservation Commission.
