EXPERIENCE

Mr. Lane is a graduate of Columbia’s Historic Preservation program where he specialized in building conservation. As a member of JHPA he concentrates on schematic survey and project management, schematic survey and assessment, materials conservation, and publication for preservation-related projects. Prior to joining our office Mr. Lane was employed at Jablonski Berkowitz Conservation in Manhattan as a staff conservator, gaining experience in materials and finishes analysis as well as field survey and assessment on a wide range of building materials. He is currently working as the project manager for the exterior restoration of Olana, Frederic Edwin Church’s estate in Hudson, New York, and at Governor’s Island in New York Harbor.

At Columbia, Mr. Lane’s thesis work focused on Guastavino tile vaults and domes. In it he examined the historic context of Guastavino’s arrival in America in the late 1800s and also conducted a scientific analysis of the mortar used in a dozen of Guastavino’s projects over a span of five decades. In relation to his thesis work, Mr. Lane received a Kinne Traveling Grant from Columbia to conduct further research into the origins of Guastavino’s work in Spain.
